Hello, this is Dr. Andrew Lee, your acupuncturist and physical therapy of Frisco..
In Oriental Medicine, there are “6 Evils” in our environment which affects our health. They are wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, and fire.
- Wind – Symptoms include sneezing, headache, and congestion. It also acts as transport for other “evils” as wind can travel in all directions.
- Cold – Symptoms include chills, shivering, cold limbs, pallor, and cramps. It stagnates and slows down your blood and qi (energy).
- Heat – Symptoms include thirst, fever, dark urine, irritability, and sweating. Excess heat can damage your fluids and disturbs your mind.
- Dampness – Symptoms include feeling of heaviness, edema, sluggishness, and phlegm. It disturbs your fluids and slows everything down.
- Dryness – Symptoms include dry mouth, dry cough, chapped lips, and constipation. It relates to heat and usually attacks your lungs.
- Fire – Symptoms include excessive sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, and delirium. It is very similar to characteristics of sun stroke.
6 “evils” work alone or in combination of two or more and can influence each other to change their characteristics and alter how they enter our body. Each individual will be affected differently depending on their current health status.
